STYLE: In God We Trust

And I couldn't finish my New York-related posts without writing about the last brand I met there: In God We Trust. A very American company of beautiful, comfortable and responsible clothing. The designer Shana Tabor, New England-born and now living in Brooklyn, is inspired by her everyday life and everything around her. And she must be very much inspired because In God We Trust offers women's clothing, menswear, jewellery and accessories. The brand was born in 2005 -nine years are quite a lot!- and counts three physical shops in New York and the online store.

One of things I loved about the brand and will make me stick to it is its sense of responsibility and community. Everything they produced In God We Trust is made in the United States - mostly in their Greenpoint, Brooklyn workshop. In addition, it is really important to Shana to create a community - building relationships with similar designers, with their neighbors in the areas where the stores are. It was fun to realize that the 4 designers/brands I met in New York -Samantha Pleet, The Deep End Club, Family Affairs, and In God We Trust- they all know and support each other. Even though they have a similar target and could be considered competence, they have chosen to be nice to each other. A lot to learn from this.

 Interview with Shana Tabor, designer

1) Alternate profession? Dancer, preferably hip hop or street

2) Favorite designer? I feel like this changes a fair amount. Lately I have been really feeling Sonia Rykiel.

3) Favorite bar/club in New York? I don't really go out to hang at bars and clubs. I do end up at The Ides (at the Wythe Hotel) because I have some friends that work there.

4) Favorite band? Favorites are pretty hard for me to declare.

5) Favorite TV show? I'm enjoying Game of Thrones.

6) Favorite app? Amazon.

7) Favorite cocktail? White wine.

8) Main inspiration for your latest collection? Static electricity.

9) What was your first calling to fashion and jewellery? Is there someone in your family whose path you have followed? I wanted to pick a career path that wouldn't make me hate my life. That's pretty much how I started working for myself as well. A typical fashion job did/would make me hate myself.

10) Who is your favorite person that wears In God We Trust? And who would you love to see wearing your creations? Comedian Maria Thayer, she has been shopping with us for a long time. She's rad and I really like her work. Kristen Wiig has bought some stuff as well. I died! I love her. We are still waiting for Beyoncé to come visit.
