DEERLIFE: New York - Day 1

Hace exactamente un mes, esto pies estaban pisando La Ciudad. Así, en mayúsculas, por que New York City es la ciudad por excelencia. Por sus rascacielos, su tráfico, su ritmo frenético, su diversidad, pero sobre todo, por sus millones de historias. New York es una ciudad diferente para cada persona que la vive. Incluso diferente cada vez que la visitas. Justo antes de cumplir los 30 y en mi cuarta vez en la ciudad, New York se convirtió en la ciudad de las ganas de vivir. Síguenos, por sus calles, sus barrios, la música, la comida y, como no, la moda.

Today exactly a month ago, these boots were walking around The City. Like this, in capital letters, because New York City is the city by definition. Because of its skyscrapers, its traffic, its hectic rhythm,its diversity, but mostly, because of its millions of stories. New York is a different city to each person who visits it. Even different every time you come back to it. Just before turning 30 and in my fourth time in the city, New York became the city of the lust for life. Walk with us around its streets, its boroughs, the music, the food and, of course, the fashion.

Lo primero a lo que nos enfrentamos al salir del aeropuerto fue al tráfico salvaje de Manhattan. Metidos en un taxi, eso sí. Después de dejar maletas en el hotel, el plan estaba claro: de pleno al centro de la ciudad, Times Square. Típico gesto americano, cogerse una Cola Light y bajar al metro. Un metro que, os informo, es absolutamente infernal de descifrar y donde habitan la mayoría de locos de la ciudad.

First thing we faced when out of the aiport was the wild Manhattan traffic. Inside a taxi, that is. After leaving the baggage at the hotel, the plan was clear: full into the heart of the city, Times Square. Typical American, grab a Diet Coke and get down to the subway. A subway system which, I must tell you, is absolute hellish to understand and which houses most of the crazy characters in the city.

El paseo hacia el centro, empezó en Rockefeller Center con parada en la tienda de Lego, el Radio City Music Hall y en un tenderte callejero para la primera comida neoyorquina: hot dog y pretzel. Al llegar a Times Square, topamos de pleno con la esencia de la ciudad: locura, luces, gente, ruido. Coches de bomberos a toda velocidad, una detención en directo en la tienda de M&M's... Lo que quieras ver, New York te lo ofrece.

The walk to the center started at Rockefeller Center stopping at the Lego store, Radio City Music Hall and a street stall for our first American meal: hot dog and pretzel. When we got to Times Square, we found what we were looking for: insanity, lights, people, noise. Speeding firetrucks, an arrest at the M&M's store... Whatever you want to see, New York is going to give it to you.

Despedimos el bullicio bajando por la Quinta hasta el Empire State Building temiendo una tortícolis al día siguiente. De ahí, a explorar nuestro barrio, el Lower East Side, concretamente Nolita. Mi primera pizza en meses fue en Toby's Public House: pizzas italianas al horno y un servicio excelente, como en la mayoría de sitios en los States. Con la tripa bien llena de pancetta y trufatta terminamos nuestras 30 horas de Day 1.

We left the bustle walking down 5th Avenue until the Empire State Building fearing a stiff neck on the following day. From there, to explore the neighborhood, the Lower East Side, Nolita in particular. My first pizza in months was at Toby's Public House: Italian pizza cooked in the oven and an excellent service as in most place in the State. With bellies full of pancetta and trufatta, we finished our 30 hours of Day 1.
